SubBRIXIA, a fantastic tale
The collection of contemporary art that runs under Brescia
Along Brescia’s 17 metro stations, SUBBRIXIA unfolds as a large underground public exhibition, a fantastical tale brought to life through diverse artistic languages, united by a common intent: to tell the story of Brescia starting from one of its most avant-garde aspects, the metro.
Promoted by UBI Fondazione CAB and implemented with the Brescia Mobilità Group and the Municipality of Brescia, with the curatorial coordination of NERO, the project was born in 2015 from Brescia Musei with a series of initial site-specific interventions for the metro stations. Resumed by the Foundation in 2019, SUBBRIXIA now takes shape as a permanent collection of public art for the city, closely connected to one of the main vectors of its urban change.
Metropolitan art with a European character
Hosting the works of internationally renowned artists, Brescia and its metro underscore the European character of a city that has been working for years to broaden its scope and look beyond its territorial borders, projecting itself into a supranational dimension.
With SUBBRIXIA, it does so through the heterogeneous and original languages of contemporary art.

Contemporary art in the daily life of the city
From the first years of operation, it was clear that Brescia’s metro stations, with their essential, bright, and elegant architecture, were perfectly suited to welcoming artistic elements capable of giving identity and recognizability to the places.
Thus was born an ambitious and innovative project, which brings contemporary art into a space of everyday life, transforming the subway into a widespread exhibition accessible to all.
